I have been making art quilts for decades, most recently incorporating images in my quilts that express changes in the natural world over time. Artist books provide a vehicle to do that in a much different, but equally personal way. I have been taking classes to learn and understand the vocabulary, tools, skills, and structures involved in creating artist books. My intention to find innovative ways to use my fabrics instead of papers has led to exploration of different construction techniques and adaptation of known artist book structures. Each new book is an experiment with unknown learning curves as I create new ways to express my ideas.

I joined the Northwoods Book Arts Guild about three years ago. It is a very vibrant organization in Fairbanks, with numerous activities and creative members interested in sharing their bookmaking skills with others. The Guild's program of workshops and collaborative projects have offered me opportunities to explore ways to incorporate the fabrics I design and commercially print into the art of bookmaking.
